RENDER 10
Description:

RENDER 10 brings together the Digital Media Mres. Final Show and the Culture Lab research community to stage a selection of new works, drawing from the latest interactive technologies, new media theory and exploratory media art practice.

Through the exhibition of these works, in a publicly accessible space, we would like to present, demonstrate and expand-upon our broad spectrum of creative digital practice. Our laboratory concept is more than just a metaphor - it gives rise to certain processes, practices and solutions for collaborative, interdisciplinary art-making and creative practice.

MATRICISM
Description:

A new artform pioneered by Christian Seidler. Matricism takes pointilism as its point of departure and involves the addition of sophisticated robotics and a newly developed color theory.

Matricism

According to Seidler, the matricism practitioner applies a logical, sequential, and often scientifically-based process to construct a complete pictorial statement which is typically rendered on canvas with oils (though any medium is equally applicable). Executed with small units or dabs of medium, the texture, pattern, and color geometries can play equal parts in expressing myriad levels of conciousness, abstraction, thought, motion, or being — beyond the obvious subject of the work.

Sound Fragments by Shannon Novak
Description:

An exploration of the link between colour, sound, and emotion by New Zealand based artist Shannon Novak. The work examines sound as fragments exploding outward from a focal point. Within each sound fragment there exists a tension between what may be easy to measure (musical note) and what may not be so easy to measure (the emotional state). Through a unique blend of geometric forms and vibrant colours, the installation exposes the sound fragments in their raw and simple beauty.

UBUWEB
Description: Essentially a gift economy, poetry is the perfect space to practice utopian politics. Freed from profit-making constraints or cumbersome fabrication considerations, information can literally "be free": on UbuWeb, we give it away and have been doing so since 1996. We publish in full color for pennies. We receive submissions Monday morning and publish them Monday afternoon. UbuWeb's work never goes "out of print." UbuWeb is a never-ending work in progress: many hands are continually building it on many platforms.
